Feed conversion ratio is the single biggest driver of profit or loss on a broiler operation.

The numbers on a 500-bird batch

At FCR 1.8, feed cost is RWF 1,980,000. At FCR 2.4, feed cost is RWF 2,640,000. Difference: RWF 660,000 per cycle.

What causes a bad FCR?

Feed wastage, wrong feed stage timing, overcrowding, poor water quality, and subclinical disease are the most common factors.
